It is time for the Doves to move their nest and migrate down the road to Pigeon Forge, TN, home of Dollywood (Pardon us for mentioning it). This place is located about 10 miles away from Gatlinburg, which is supposed to be the gem of the Great Smokey Mountains. It is highly decorated for the season with millions of lights. They have tram rides up the mountain, Christmas caroling in the streets, even a roving bear just to liven things up a bit. We will stay there a minimum of two nights, and if we like it, we may stay there for the weekend. This is about a two hour trip from our present location.

The above photo shows the fantastic scenery that has greeted us for the past couple of days just outside of our dining room window. Today we went into Greeneville for lunch. While there, we visited the home of Andrew Jackson, our 17th President. The temperature rose above freezing today. This is always a welcome event because as long as water won't freeze, we can connect our RV to city water. We have a huge 65 gallon internal water tank to keep us in the flow when we are forced to become self sufficient. Our waste water holding tanks even have heaters on them to keep them from freezing up in this kind of weather. This is a feature we thought we would never need when we purchased this rig. Normally we can exist pretty well in the cold using just our electric fireplace in the living room and a small portable heater in the kitchen. Our propane furnace has had to kick in quite consistently during the Arctic blast we have recently had to endure. Tomorrow and Wednesday are supposed to be a little warmer, but with some rain. It is supposed to get cold again Thursday night with temperatures falling below 20 degrees.

So where should we spend Christmas? Any suggestions?

a suggestion for Christmas is Niagra Falls---we hear its beautiful with the spray freezing in the air---or you could turn around and spend it in Richmond and Washington DC :) :) you know who:)
