So it was off to Port Aransas, TX for what should wind up being the shortest move of this wild adventure. This place is on an island, and we had to take a ferry to get over there. What a hoot! The ferries can handle 20 cars at a time, but we took up plenty of spaces as you can see by the above photo. The port handles huge freighters, most of which carry oil. They don't dock here, but this place is a gateway for deep draught ships to access Southern Texas. It's amazing to watch a ship the size of New Hampshire pass by as you are fishing off of a jetty!

Speaking of fishing, Bill got lucky and caught a 28" redfish less than a mile from the RV. Bill's smile was nearly as wide as the fish was long. We were able to get enough meat out of it for four meals each.

We had a power failure one day just as Marcia was beginning to participate in an on-line seminar in which she had previously enrolled. Her screams indicated that immediate action was necessary, so Bill ran outside to set up our generator. As luck would have it, there was a water sprinkler running wildly next to the compartment where the generator was stored. As Bill rounded the corner, a stream of water darted directly towards his face, so he ducked, smashing his eyebrow into the side of the RV. He received a little gash about a half inch wide above his eyebrow which required a couple of stitches. The doctor who sewed him back up decided to make his injury look like it was worthy of a huge amount of sympathy. Bill sang "Yankee Doodle Dandy" for the remainder of the day.

We really enjoyed this place. We stayed there for a month and were able to take long walks on the beach. We also were able to experience "Sandfest" where people made huge sand sculptures on the beach. Thousands of people were on hand to enjoy the fun in the sun.
