We have had a wonderful time during our stay here in Mobile. We went to a Mardi Gras parade in Dauphin Island. What a hoot! The parade was loaded with good old down-home folks who were hell bent on having a good time. A Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, it was not! It was short and sweet... Actually, very sweet! They threw Moon Pies (believe it or not), candy, beads, and plush toys into the crowd. The photo of old Miss Piggy hanging from our rear view mirror attests to some of the loot we were able to accumulate. Did the diet conscious Doves stand there and dodge the candy and Moon Pies? Heck no, we were out there scrounging with the best of them in a desperate attempt to see if we could fill the truck with the calorie laden loot before the parade was over. It was easy to tell we were way down South because we were standing on a pile of crawfish carcasses which had obviously been consumed during the parade which was held the previous week.

We went to the beach at Dauphin Island after the parade in order to avoid having to drive back to our RV in the bumper-to-bumper traffic which put the island into grid lock at the end of the parade. Bill got out his trusty metal detector, and Marcia walked on the beach for about an hour. It was wonderful to have the sand beneath out feet once again. The weather was wonderful, just about 70 degrees. We didn't waste a single second feeling sorry for you poor folks who are up in the North country suffering from the recent artic blast. This was our second visit to this island during our stay. The place is wonderful.

We also visited the Battleship Alabama Museum during our stay. We toured the battleship and a submarine. The place was interesting and kept us from playing the Mexican Train Game for a few hours. We also drove over to the state park in Mississippi that we were thinking of making our next stop. The place was a real blah, so we decided to scratch that place off of the list.

The cold weather returned last night, forcing us to fill our internal water tank and disconnect the outside water supply to avoid freezing the lines. It is presently just below freezing, and a gusty wind is howling outside. Fortunately, today is another moving day. We are headed to a state park in Westwego, LA, which is just outside of New Orleans. The place is about three hours West of here, and the temperature there is 10 degrees warmer! Their forecast claims that they expect to be in the low 70's by the weekend. The Massachussettes side of the family is complaining about the blizzard which just struck, trapping them inside of their homes. Sister Jill tells is presently experiencing 15 degree temperatures in Norcross, GA which is just outside Hot 'Lanta. We are so fortunate to be able to roam about the country.

We have reservations at the new park for a week, but who knows, we may enjoy New Orleans so much that we may opt to stay longer. They definitely have the lowest camping fee in the nation for seniors - just $9.00 per night, which includes water and electric. When we finally leave there, we will probably head out to the Western end of the state and spend some time in another Louisianna state park before heading off to Texas. It presently looks like we might visit Houston and San Antonio for about a week each before heading for a month's stay in a park in Mercedes, TX which is just outside of Brownsville, the Southern most part of the state. It is only about 8 miles from the border. Adios for now!
