The sun may be coming up on my old Kentucky home, but this morning finds us on the banks of the Swannee River in the Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center in White Springs, FL, just South of the Georgia state line. We spent most of the day in the truck yesterday and drove over 330 miles from Naples, FL. It was a hoot watching all of the snow birds flocking South in their RVs while we were headed North into the bitter cold. The great news is that our first tank of diesel fuel only cost $3.25/gallon. That's more than $1.50 less than we were paying this summer.
This park is absolutely beautiful, and because we are only staying here two nights, it took a small amount of time to set up the RV. We walked over to a rustic little village within the park and did some window shopping in one of their stores before dinner. We had a half devoured bowl of tuna casserole in the refrigerator from the previous night, so our meal was over in a matter of minutes thanks to the marvels of the microwave oven. We were lucky enough to arrive on the one night of the month when they had a talent show lined up. About a dozen people performed in the park's auditorium for those of us who were fortunate enough to be camping here last night. Most of the performers played the guitar and sang, but there were a couple of dancers and a partially deaf fellow who played the bagpipes. It took us only a few seconds of listening to him playing his "outside" set of pipes to realize what caused his hearing problems.
We will hopefully get on our bicycles today and do some exploring in a desperate attempt to avoid watching the news on this pre-election Sunday in the park. We are heading off to a federal campground in Appling, GA tomorrow. This place is about 250 miles from here and about 200 miles South of the grand-munchkins. We recharge our bodies and souls there for three nights there before going to Kannapolis, NC for an undetermined number of days.
