Just when we thought it was safe to go back in the water, the gasoline shortage struck. Our final prerequisite to getting on the road was to sell about 1500 wooden pepper mills that had been decorating our garage. We gave a great deal to some wonderful folks in Rhode Island who purchased them, thereby allowing us to get on with our lives. Then we learn that North Carolina is rationing gas to $10.00 per customer and that availability in Georgia is glum as well. Both of these states were in our immediate travel plans. We have friends traveling down here this week from Virginia in a diesel guzzler. We will await their arrival to learn more about the situation from people who have just traveled through the area. The pepper mills should be shipped out of the garage on Sunday, so we will finally be free to move about the country at a moment's notice. Perhaps we will volunteer at a local state park or something for a week or two before getting on with our lives. Who knows what is next for us? Stay tuned...
