The Pumpkin Patch campground in Hermon, ME was our next stop. This campground was neat and tidy and is the summer home to many RVers who divide their time between Maine and Florida. The Patch is located near the Hollywood Slots Casino and we, not so happily, made our donation to the Maine economy. We were delighted to find that the park was having an end of season pot luck dinner and Bill, who is always looking for a good excuse to cook something, did double duty with homemade bread and cupcakes. The food was fantastic. Park people sure know how to cook.

One of our park neighbors spent a great deal of his time on his wood carving hobby, turning out Santa Clauses, elves etc. Bill couldn't wait to try it himself. We ran around for days shopping for the right supplies. Well, wood carving didn't turn out to be such a good idea after all. He almost cut his thumb off while sharpening one of his knives. He wouldn't tell me how badly he was cut because he knew I would make him go to a doctor which he didn't want to do. He just doctored the cut himself and actually, I must say, he did a great job the cut healed just fine. You can hardly see the scar.

Pumpkin Patch is located about an hour from Bangor Maine which is the location of the fast ferry (CAT) that takes passengers and cars to Yarmouth, Nova Scotia. Visiting Nova Scotia was a huge reason we were hanging around this part of the world. The trip one way, however, is three hours and so unfortunately we had very little time to spend in Yarmouth before we had to take the three hour return trip home. We walked around town looking in some of the shops and had a fabulous lunch at one of the local restaurants. A Lobster/mashed potato cake did it for me! Awesome. A visit to the local tourist office and it was time to head back to the ship.
